Happiness is creating a space that is both beautiful and functional.

De-cluttering your space is the first and most important first step in achieving a stress-free and happy lifestyle.

Starting with a small space, such as a dysfunctional closet, look around the house for an alternative space to store last season’s hanging clothes. If you don’t have another space option, don’t fret, you can just pack them away in labeled clear plastic containers, which are affordable and easy to find.

Now, in to the fun part!  In order to make this experience the most enjoyable- put on some great tunes and be sure to have an iced water or tea close by.  It’s amazing how much energy you will expel while purging unneeded items.

Take everything out of your closet- organizing as you go. Be sure to try on each and every item. If it’s more than a tiny bit too tight or smidge too big, put it in the discard pile. No exceptions! This also applies if you haven’t worn a piece in the past three seasons. Generally good conditioned clothes that you no longer want can be consigned, donated or given away to your friends and family.

The next step is to fully clean your closet.  Vacuum or sweep out the corners and wipe down the surfaces.

Plan your closet! Don’t just put everything back in willy-nilly; make a mental plan, think about the entire package, and organize!

I like to organize by type and color- white shirts together, then yellow, orange, red…. You get the point.  This way, you can easily access a top for that perfect spring skirt!

Spring is the time to treat yourself to the gift of a de-cluttered, organized space.

Being organized will save you both time and money as well as make you happier, as you have a space that is both beautiful and functional.
